Our substitutes arrive to programs fully trained and prepared to support programs staying in ratio and providing high quality supervision.

Programs can request substitutes when they need to go to appointments, provide extra 1:1 attention to a child in care, participate in professional development, complete administrative tasks, and more. All substitutes are background checked, have completed licensing required professional development, and are certified “Program Ready” by our team before working in a child care.

Registered Family Child Cares 

Certified Family Child Cares 

Certified Center Child Cares 

Certified School-Age Child Cares 

Outdoor Nature-Based Child Cares

License Exempt Child Cares

Tribal Programs

Types of Jobs Substitutes are available to work:

Support Jobs

  • Program staff are in the program and/or room with the substitute 
  • Must be within sight and/or sound of a provider or qualified staff member at all times depending on program type
  • Substitute supports regular staff in the care of children 

Lead Jobs

  • Director or Provider is on site (or staff qualified to step into that role as needed) with the substitute
  • Substitute is teacher qualified
  • Do not need to be directly supervised
  • Is the primary caregiver of children in care during shift

Director/Provider Jobs

  • No regular staff is on site with the substitute
  • Teacher qualified
  • Has worked one shift in the program previously as support or lead within the last 30 days. 
  • Is the primary caregiver of children in care during shift 

🔔 Limitations:

  • Substitutes may only work alone in a facility for up to 4 hours.
  • The Provider/Director must provide an emergency contact for administrative support as needed.

Enrolled Programs:

✅ Must be in “active” status in Find Child Care Oregon

✅ Must be in good licensing status 

✅ Receive up to 50 hours of subsidized substitute support per calendar year.

✅ Have access to virtual monthly program technical assistance sessions with our friendly admin team to support use services.

Note: Child Care Substitutes of Oregon is not able to provide last minute, sick leave care at this time. Our services are best used for pre planned support needs. As we grow we hope to be able to provide more last minute services in the future.
